The Nationals may have another injury concern on their hands.
Having already lost a number of stars to injuries this season, Washington fans looked on in desperation Sunday in Arizona as starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg was pulled after just two innings.
Strasburg has an unsavory track record with injuries, including Tommy John surgery, so the Nationals may just have decided to be cautious with their co-ace.
Manager Dusty Baker said after the game that Strasburg was removed due to arm stiffness, and he will be reassessed next week.
Strasburg (10-3, 3.25 ERA) left with a 4-0 lead against the Diamondbacks, but he did walk three batters. Only 29 of Strasburg’s 51 pitches through two innings went for strikes, so he probably wasn’t going to last very long anyway.
While the injury doesn’t immediately sound severe, Strasburg’s injury history makes it hard to be overly optimistic.
The Mets traded Lucas Duda to the Rays for sought-after prospect Drew Smith. Duda is hitting .246 with 17 home runs this season, and is leaving the team he has played all 10 of his professional seasons with. In that time, Duda’s 125 career homers put him seventh all-time among Mets players.
The Rockies traded prospects Jose Gomez, J.D. Hammer and Cheap Jerseys NCAA Basketball Alejandro Requena to the Phillies for All-Star reliever Pat Neshek. Colorado boasts one of the most explosive lineups in MLB, but pitching has been Cheap Jerseys NFL Nike a problem. Neshek’s presence (and 1.12 ERA) should help the end of the bullpen.
